The Summit of the European Women’s Associations of Ukraine took place in Brussels, Belgium between 14-16 of April. This event gathered over 60 delegates from 20 European countries – the leaders of Ukrainian and European civil organizations.
This forum provided a unique opportunity for the exchange of information, the formation of strategic alliances, as well as the development of joint initiatives that recognized the important role of women in the world community.
The summit had two parts. The first part was a presentation of the most important projects from large-scale civil organizations and was opened by Ms. Gudrun Nydorf, a representative of the EU Committee of Regions and Ms. Sasenjka Konjevod, a representative of the Croatian Embassy in the EU. The second part of the Summit included panel discussions at the Ukrainian Civil Society Hub and was presented by the Representative of Ukraine to the European Union and European Partnership – Mr. Vsevolod Chentsov.
Our Development Director Iryna Fedorenko introduced the American Fund for Ukrainian Reconstruction (AFUR) to the forum participants and spoke about the projects (for the refugees from Mariupol) we are currently working on.
Summit participants also held a rally near the symbolic tree of peace to pay tribute to the soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom of Ukraine. Delegates honored their memory with a minute of silence and attached blue and yellow paper angels to the peace tree.
